About/Contact
My name is Tracy Lucas. I began my company, Four Square Creative (which in turn, runs Writing for Your Supper), with one thought in mind: to offer individualized services to those who want to be fully prepared to tackle publishing.
That’s the mumbo-jumbo, elevator speech for this:
I want to help you write.
This site is an outgrowth of that goal. In helping author after author through the nuts and bolts of writing, editing, publishing, and selling, I realized that many of my clients asked the same questions again and again: Where do you get your ideas? How do I organize my thoughts into a finished book? How can I tell who’s reputable and who might be a scam artist? Where do you start?
Sure, there’s other publishing information out there on the web. The problem is that much of it is outdated, unrealistic, or too complicated and jargony to make sense of. Some of it’s dead wrong.
I know the multiple facets of the publishing world. I’ve been a journalist, photographer, magazine editor, radio newswriter, proofreader, copywriter, freelance columnist, blogger, book editor, reviewer, playwright, publisher, and graphic designer. I’ve sold more than a hundred non-fiction articles (and counting), and my fiction and poetry have also appeared in several print and online literary magazines. I do this full-time, and nothing else.
And I remember exactly how I felt when I started.
I was overwhelmed. I was intimidated by editors, by publishers, and by other authors. I didn’t know where to begin, only that I wanted to.
The passion was there, but I didn’t have a clue what to do with it or where to turn first. I had all of the enthusiasm but none of the know-how.
That’s what this site is all about: helping you write, right where you are, and giving you the tools you need to be successful. You don’t have to go through years of trial and error to get your writing career on track. Others have gone before you, and can help you cut a clear path. I’m one of them.
Writing for publication–whether that means advertising copy, thesis papers, or even commercially-available books–can be a daunting task when you aren’t sure where to turn or what to do next. Believe me, I know. I’m here and ready with proven experience, a willingness to listen, and access to industry contacts who can help you in your goals. You’ve come to the right place.
I’d love your feedback!
